The Scholarship: The Sheila Birkett Gift of Life Scholarship Fund awards an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from the Eldred Central School District who plans to continue their education in a medical field. This fund was established in honor of Sheila Birkett, who donated her kidney to Joshua Glantz, a Social Studies teacher at Eldred High School.
“In my recent medical distress, I met many excellent and caring medical professionals. I would like to honor Sheila’s gift, a gift that has allowed me to keep teaching and working with students, by helping our children pursue a medical career to assist others.”-- Joshua Glantz
How the Fund is Organized: The scholarship is run through the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan County. The scholarship, once we reach our fund raising goal of $25,000, will be perpetual and help the students of Eldred pursue their education. The fund should grow over time and provide long-lasting support to the students of Eldred.
